- Q: How will you keep things safe in regard to COVID-19?
- A: The situation, as everybody knows, is continuously evolving. Although we expect the pandemic to be much more under control by the start of camp, we will be fully prepared to follow all appropriate federal, state, and local health protocols to ensure that campers have a safe experience. If your child or a member of your immediate family is part of a high-risk population due to health concerns, we urge you to sit this year out and join us for Sandlot 2023.
- Q: Do you offer a discount for siblings?
- A: Rather than over-pricing our camp and offering discounts / specials, we have priced our camp as low as possible to be affordable to all families. Furthermore, many of our expenses (field trips, shirts, awards, etc.) are charged per camper. So, our price is the same for every kid.
- Q: My kid went to full-day Kindergarten last year and is going to be in 1st grade next year. Can he come to camp?
- A: No. Although we understand that some kids entering 1st grade might do well at camp, we would like campers to at least be entering 2nd grade. These kids, typically, have the requisite ability to listen to directions, operate independently (tying shoes, using the restroom, independently monitoring personal items, changing clothes, etc.), and possess the endurance to get through a 7-hour day of high activity.
- Q: Do you do after-care?
- A: No. We have one group of staff on-site all day (no shifts). Kids need to be picked up between 3:45 and 4:00 P.M.
- Q: Do we have to live within the Worthington School District in order to sign up?
- A: No. Although we are located in Worthington, any kid who loves to have fun is welcome!
- Q: How do I register?
- A: Visit the registration page on this website.
- Q: Do I have to sign up for all four weeks?
- A: No. You can sign up for one-four weeks.
- Q: Will the camp fill up?
- A: Yes, so it is a good idea to register as early as possible.
- Q: What is the camper to coach ratio?
- A: For a full camp of 120 kids, we will have at least 10 staff members. So, at least 12-1. While on field trips, however, the staff at the field trip sites also help monitor our kids.
- Q: My child isn’t super athletic/doesn't play sports. Would he still have fun?
- A: Yes! We play games that are modified / designed so that all kids can participate and be successful, not just the most athletic. Many games involved teamwork and problem-solving.
- Q: How can 2nd graders compete against 7th or 8th graders?
- A: They don’t. We divide each team into an upper (grades 5-8) and lower (grades 2-4) division. Plus, the games are modified (see previous question, above).
- Q: Do you cancel if it rains?
- A: No. If the weather is bad, we will do activities either under the shelter or inside the church building.
- Q: I’m worried about the pool because my child isn’t a strong swimmer. How do you make sure that my kid is safe?
- A: Upon arrival, all campers (who wish to go in the deep areas) will take a swim test (swimming 25 meters without touching bottom), which is closely supervised by lifeguards and our staff. Campers are given a colored wristband that correlates to their swimming ability...allowing lifeguards, staff, and campers to look out for each other and quickly identify who is allowed in each swimming area (NOTE: There are two shallow pools, with water only about 2-3’ deep). Campers are not allowed in any of the deep areas if they don’t pass the swim test. As an added security, campers are paired off and they must always have their partner with them. Our staff, as well as the lifeguards at the pool, are extremely vigilant, and we walk around to monitor non-stop. Furthermore, campers are taken out of the water every 45 minutes for a 15-minute rest break. If you kiddo doesn’t feel like swimming, there is also a playground at the pool. Many kids will play tetherball or play on the playground for at least part of the time.
- Q: What is your cancellation policy?
- A: We will issue a full refund, minus a $25 processing fee, if you need to cancel and notify us prior to May 1st. After May 1st, we will offer a 50% refund for cancellations occurring no more than 15 days prior to the start of the first week of camp. No refunds will be issued for cancellations occurring fewer than 15 days before the start of camp (Week 1). NOTE: We have adopted this policy because we are required to order shirts and awards, as well as put down deposits for field trips, in advance. Also, it can be difficult and time consuming to fill spots on short notice. Thank you for understanding!
